I have been working constantly since I was fourteen except for a few bumps in the road, injuries and pandemics. You know what it’s like!?
I have worked in many different industries ranging from serving, bartending and managing events in high-class beautiful English hotels, to cooking in dirty greasy spoons (Cafes). At one point café was my day job, fancy hotel was my evening job! You want to get to know people, really know people from both sides of the fence, that’s how you do it.
I’ve spent years working in the marine industry, from being a Dive Control Specialist on the Great Barrier Reef, Australia to teaching offshore survival and helicopter ditching techniques in the oil and gas Sector, in Canada. This also presented me with lots of opportunities to run deployments all over the world and visit oil rigs and platforms that most people would never set foot on.
Regarding design and production, I have worked on the floor (workshop) and in the office. I always felt that you can’t really design something unless you really know how it works and if you first learn how to make it, the design side will come naturally. I had an opportunity to do just that at Eximious Bespoke Furniture, a very high-end furniture maker catering to the likes of Bosch and Rolls Royce. As an apprentice there I acquired the skills needed to design in the studio. My time in production never ended but took me through companies like Meticulous Themed Solutions, designing and building theme park rides and working on set model-making for block buster movies like Batman Begins.
I have worn many different shoes and had a spectacular time in them. I’ve also been lucky enough to have only ever moved on because I wanted to, not because I was pushed. It's quite the opposite.
I consider myself somebody who enjoys life and tries to get as much out of it as I can.
I’ve always had a passion for traveling which was fueled by my dad telling us stories of his travels when he was younger and a German girl who I met when I was 16, working at a hotel in the Kent country side.
I have never had much money and quite honestly, I have never wanted the ability to be able to just buy whatever I want. There is a certain magic that is lost when you can just have anything.
These two things combined has made me quite resourceful and determined, it is reflected in my work, I love a challenge and I love solving problems, I am fascinated by how things work. My opinion is “if it was made by the hand of man, I can fix it” although it might take a bit longer.
That also applies to furniture! If you can imagine it, I can make it!
